UNB RED BOMBERS KICKER RECOGNIZED FOR LONGEST PUNT EVER 53 YEARS LATER!!

On the eve of the anniversary of his historic punt, it has been learned that, Tom Pinckard, 1966 UNB Red Bombers Kicker, will be recognized by USport, the governing body of university varsity sports in Canada, for the longest punt EVER… the ball travelled a total of 114 yards. Film of the historic punt was incomplete but the record punt was corroborated in signed affidavits by three players on the field and the official time keeper of the game who witnessed the kick. The game took place on September 24, 1966 at College Field against St Dunstan’s University, that later became UPEI. Tom kicked from his own 21 yard line with the ball travelling through the end zone stopped only by the fence at the end of the field. From his Ontario home, Tom stated that it is a Red Bombers National Record and “its one for the guys, Bombers Away”. Tom congratulated the current UNB Red Bombers in their recent win against the Dalhousie University Tigers. Tom has said he looks forward to being on the field with the team at a home game in the near future. News of USports recognition of the UNB Red Bomber comes on the eve of UNB Homecoming this Saturday when the Red Bombers host UNB Saint John Seawolves 1:00 pm at BMO Field. Michele Richardson, Chair of the UNB Red Bombers Football Club, stated that celebration of the 70 year history of the team is the foundation of today’s UNB Red Bombers. “It’s with the support of great players, like Tom Pinckard, that we are able to be the team we are today. Bomber family Bomber pride.”
